Tips & Tickes
Here’s an idea for a New Year’s Resolution that you might actually enjoy trying to achieve. Sleep more! Most children and adults do not get enough sleep. We all know that sleep is especially important in growing and developing children because it gives the body an opportunity to physically rest.
According to recent research, it’s also a time for the brain to consolidate or reinforce what a child has learned during the day. Not surprisingly, sleep deprived children do not perform well in school. Obvious symptoms of sleep deprivation in children include fatigue, inattentiveness, and listlessness. Other symptoms that you may not at first attribute to sleep deprivation are irritability, impatience, fussiness, and even aggressive behavior.
Staying up late several nights in a row and then trying to make up the sleep will not work. What counts is getting enough sleep every night. Teenagers need at least 8.5 – 9.5 hours of sleep each night while elementary age children need between 10 and 11 hours of sleep nightly. Adults, on average, need between 8 – 8.5 hours of sleep each night.
So turn off the TV, put on your pajamas,
and get started on this New Year’s Resolution!
